Charlie's Plan to Save Portsmouth's NHS

Our NHS is a national asset. Charlie Murphy and the Portsmouth Liberal Democrats are determined to save the NHS after years of Conservative neglect.

An ambulance.

Our NHS is at breaking point. Patients wait hours on end for ambulances to arrive, and A&E waiting times have skyrocketed with some people waiting over 24 hours for care.

It can't go on like this. Every winter, the crisis in the NHS reaches a point where lives are being lost unnecessarily.

This is a national crisis. Nobody should lose a loved one because the Government was asleep on the job.

NHS paramedics, nurses and doctors are this country’s heroes but they have been left high and dry.

We need a clear plan to fix the NHS, with an emergency budget within the first four weeks of the next Parliament.

Having worked in social care, I know there is no way to fix the NHS without fixing the crisis in social care. We urgently need to take some pressure off of our hospitals and ambulance service.

Charlie's plan for the NHS

  • Free personal care at home for everyone who needs it, keeping them out of hospital and independent for longer
  • Give everyone the right to see a GP within seven days, or within 24 hours if they urgently need to, with 8,000 more GPs to deliver on it.
  • Guarantee access to an NHS dentist for everyone needing urgent and emergency care, ending DIY dentistry and ‘dental deserts’.
  • Improve early access to mental health services by establishing mental health hubs for young people in every community and introducing regular mental health check-ups at key points in people’s lives when they are most vulnerable to mental ill-health.
  • Boost cancer survival rates and introduce a guarantee for 100% of patients to start treatment for cancer within 62 days from urgent referral.
  • Help people to spend five more years of their life in good health by investing in public health.
