Celebrating our Teachers at the Teach Portsmouth Awards
Last week I had the privilege to go to the Guildhall for this year's Teach Portsmouth Awards, celebrating another year of excellence from the dedicated team of professionals who work in our city's schools.
These awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate excellence in education, highlight best practice, and recognise the incredible staff who make a real difference to the lives of children and young people in our city.
I'm proud to be Portsmouth's cabinet member for children and education and I'm inspired every day by the hundreds of teachers and support staff who work in our schools. They dedicate their lives to supporting Pompey children, with 43 people celebrating over 20 years of working in education at the 2025 Teach Portsmouth Awards.
This year we saw a record number of entries into the People's Choice category, sponsored by The News, which was won by Hannah Powell from New Horizons Primary School in Copnor who was celebrated for going above and beyond to support pupils across the school.
Last week's winners and long service recipients, as well as the teams working in our schools every day, give my team at the council the energy to work to improve the futures of every child who lives in this city. Our city is stronger because of the work they do.
The full list of winners and photos from the celebration can be found at teachportsmouth.co.uk/awards, along with information about training and teaching in Portsmouth.

Cllr Nicholas Dorrington is Portsmouth's cabinet member for Children and Family Services and Education, and the Liberal Democrat councillor for Eastney & Craneswater.
