Weather warning issued in Portsmouth for Storm Goretti
The Met Office and some utility suppliers like Scottish and Southern Energy (SSEN) have issued weather warnings for Thursday 8 and Friday 9 January 2026 in Portsmouth.
This is due to Storm Goretti which is expected on the south coast and south west of England, colder weather and high winds. The worst conditions are expected around Cornwall.
The Met Office say the chance of impact in Portsmouth is low. As of Wednesday evening, the Met Office does not predict wind speeds over 44mph in Portsmouth.
However, if you are worried about the weather warning and what it means for you, this page has some more information and guidance.
SSEN have advised that there may be power cuts in our area and they are preparing to respond if that happens. You can be prepared by charging up batteries on your devices, and any power banks you have around the house. Although hopefully you will not need them!
It is also a good time to check on parts of your property to make sure things are secure for high winds. Please take care if you are driving or walking around the area, as high winds can blow things onto the road, and cold weather increases the risk of ice on the roads.
Local services will continue to run as normal, including road gritting and clearing of debris. Please report any issues you see as usual.
