Tree-mendous: Portsmouth Christmas trees collected for FREE!
Its the New Year now and you may need help to dispose of your beautiful real Christmas tree.
Helpfully, Portsmouth City Council will take it away for FREE on 2 special collection days in January.
But be aware, these dates may be different from your normal rubbish and recycling days and vary by area.
(Well-run, Lib Dem-led Portsmouth runs many value-added schemes like this that will go if Labour gets its way on local government reorganisation - that's why we say: Hands Off Portsmouth!)
On the designated days, just put your tree out on the street neatly and a special team will collect them. If your tree is more than 6ft (2m) tall you will need to cut it into 2 pieces.
You can check collections dates for your area online here or call 023 9284 1105 and select option 4.
Last year, over 1900 real Christmas trees were collected and turned into compost and this year the council hopes to recycle even more. Other options for disposal are the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Port Solent or, if you can subscribe, via the Leaf it Out scheme.
Across the year, well-run, Lib Dem-led Portsmouth provides useful, non-statutory schemes like this.
However, they will all be at risk if the Government succeeds in forcing Portsmouth to merge with surrounding areas and take on a big share of Hampshire's debt. That's why Portsmouth Liberal Democrats - and 82% of local residents - continue to tell the Labour government: Hands Off Portsmouth.
We will have to see if the Government listens any better this year than last!
In the meantime, welcome to 2026 and let's hope we all have a good year.
