Have A Safe Journey
Today, Portsmouth Lib Dem deputy leader Councillor Darren Sanders got Portsmouth's taxi licensing team to work out how to get all taxis and private hire vehicles on Portsmouth's roads to abide by the city's tough rules.
At the moment taxis not licensed here travel on our roads even though they may not have safety measures like CCTV or cabbies taking drug screening, which must be in place to get a licence here. Lib Dems in the city want all taxis on our roads to have these things. So Cllr Sanders got the Council's Licensing Committee to agree to meet the city's MPs so we can work together to change the law to make this happen.
He also got them to see what can be done within the current law to make sure all cabs on Portsmouth's roads are as good as the best, regardless of where they are licensed.
It's important that all taxis and private hire vehicles operating in our city meet the high standards that Portsmouth residents and visitors expect. The safety of people in this city a top priority for Lib Dems on Portsmouth City Council, and I'm glad to have got the Council to work put how to improve standards for everyone.
