Hampshire County Council push for Pompey-Southampton Merger
Can you remember when Conservatives in Portsmouth wanted to paint the Spinnaker Tower red? Thousands of people in our city spoke out against one of our icons being painted Southampton red.
Well, the Conservatives are at it again. Recently, the news uncovered a bombshell from County Hall in Winchester. Hampshire County Council are pushing the government to merge Portsmouth and Southampton. Hampshire's Conservative leadership have kept quiet about what this will mean for the future of our city, but could see decisions about our city being made in Southampton.
We know that decisions about our city are best made in our city.
That's why we're continuing with our campaign to send a clear message to Winchester and Westminster: keeps your Hands Off Portsmouth!
If you haven't signed the Hands Off Portsmouth petition yet, don't miss your opportunity to stand up for the identity and heritage of our city by signing today. Whe will continue to stand up against any suggestion that we should hand control of the future our city to Southampton, Winchester, or Westminster.
Hands off Portsmouth!
The Government wants Portsmouth to merge into a larger authority which will include other areas. Those areas have different needs, they are not Portsmouth and they may come with lots of Hampshire's debt which Portsmouth did not incur. Portsmouth should remain its own city and not be forced to merge and lose its identity.
