Your Eastney & Craneswater candidate Matthew Winnington

Introducing your Eastney & Craneswater candidate in the May 6th local elections: Matthew Winnington

Hello, I'm Matthew Winnington and I've been a local councillor in Eastney & Craneswater for the last nine years. This May I'm standing again for election.

I live in Southsea with my wife. As the City Council's Cabinet Member responsible for Health and Adult Social Services I've led Portsmouth's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This has been a huge piece of work working with all parts of the council, the NHS, other public services, the voluntary and community sectors and businesses, and I cannot praise the work enough of all the workers and volunteers who have served us all so well. Away from the council, I work part time for a local mental  health charity.

I have been a member of the Langstone Harbour Board for nine years and I led the work to bring back the Hayling Ferry, and secured funding to get the bus connection down to Eastney and the ferry reinstated.

I'm backing the plans for a new community centre and community facilities, swimming pools and sports centre on the site of the Eastney Community Centre. I have also supported residents parking zones in areas where people want them.

Supporting local residents is at the heart of what I do. Whether it's getting rubbish removed from streets, working to get better cycle routes in the city, opposing the crazy and disruptive Aquind Interconnector scheme or campaigning against Southern Water dumping raw sewage into Langstone Harbour.

I hope you will support me in the Council Elections this spring to continue to be part of the Lib Dem team running the City Council and help and support local residents as their city councillor."
