Christmas is an important time of year for the city and its residents. This year we have a whole host of Christmas activities taking place across the festive period, some of which are listed below:
Christmas Markets. There’s a new German Christmas Market in Commercial Road everyday until Christmas Eve. The Hotwalls Studios in Old Portsmouth have their market 10am-4pm on the 1st and 2nd December.
Lights Switch Ons. We’ve already switched on the lights in Southsea and the City Centre but the Lights Switch On event in Cosham is on Wednesday 28th November 4pm-6pm.
Ice Rink. The Guildhall Square Ice Rink has returned for a second year and will be open everyday until 6th January 2019 (except Christmas Day).
We’re also really pleased to be introducing Christmas lights to areas of the city which have been previously neglected. These areas include Allaway Avenue, Havant Road, Tangier Road, Copnor Road, Winter Road and Fawcett Road. These lights will not only bring some festivity to these areas but will also be a draw to help support local businesses.
One of the upcoming events we are supporting is Small Business Saturday on 1st December. These roads which will soon be lit up for Christmas are full of small local businesses run by Portsmouth families and 1st December is all about celebrating how important they are to our communities and the city as a whole. To support the day, we’re making nearby council car parks free to use for the day. Please do consider going out to support your local high street.
Something we can sometimes forget in the busyness of the festive season is when to put our bins out. Save the image below to your phone to make sure you know when to put your bins out!
