I have represented Nelson Ward for over 30 years and know our area of Buckland, North End, Stamshaw & Tipner like the back of my hand.
Many residents have asked me to stand again; whilst local people may not always agree with Lib Dem views or proposals, they do know that we listen and there is every opportunity to give their views/comments on issues directly to me or my colleagues Councillors Jason Fazackarley and Lee Hunt.
I live in North End Avenue - and have done so for many years. All my children, and my grandchildren who live in Portsmouth, attended Corpus Christi Primary School.
I ask myself what kind of Council uses £14m of our money to buy a Waitrose in Somerset when investment and jobs are needed here in Portsmouth? The answer was the previous Conservative Council, supported by UKIP and Labour - and then gambled and lost £millions of local taxpayers money on a risky electric generation company that failed.
The dreadful Covid emergency has in a way rekindled our community spirit - our local Lib Dem team and many volunteers helped organise meals for children on school holidays and shielding residents. At the same time we keep in touch through local newsletters and by social media.
If re-elected, I would, as I have always done, put the interests of all our residents and the interests of the City first.
As I’ve intimated above, it is important that Nelson’s councillors are easily contactable and will resume our monthly Advice Centre for residents once Covid rules allow - to come and speak with them in some privacy.
