Ian is our candidate for St Thomas Ward in the 2021 Local Elections.
I have been working over the last few years with local councillors Chris Attwell, Rob Wood and Tom Wood supporting local residents, listening to your views, getting out and about in the St Thomas Ward - which covers Old Portsmouth, Somerstown and parts of Southsea - as much as possible. Tom is standing down this May after serving his full-term and I am standing for the city council to replace Tom.
Both sides of my family have lived and worked in Portsmouth for generations. When my father left the armed forces, we returned to the city as a family when I was a young child. I grew up here in Portsmouth, went to school here and started my working career in the local defence Industry. I currently work in the automobile industry for Rolls Royce.
I live in the centre of the Ward, in Pembroke Park, with my wife and two children, who both attend local state schools. Whether it's kayaking along the seafront, swimming at Hotwalls beach, shopping and eating out in the local area, I can’t think of a better place to live.
In fact, three generations of my family all live in St Thomas Ward. This gives me, I believe, a deeper perspective on the issues which affect us all, young and old as residents. Access to good/outstanding local schools, safer roads, parking availability, noise control, local housing concerns, recycling and the environment are all matters close to my heart. I am a member of Friends of Old Portsmouth and my family are active members of Portsmouth Cathedral (parish church) and support many events there.
It's been a frustrating year with lockdowns, so we've not been able to get out and about 'knocking on doors' and listening to local people as much as we normally do but if you want to contact us about a local issue, please do.
It would be a great honour to be able to represent you - my neighbours - on Portsmouth City Council. If elected I will be a strong voice for our local community, working tirelessly on your behalf.
