Dave Ashmore backs Fratton shops and traders

The newly established 'Fratton Road Traders' group invited all three Fratton Ward councillors to a meeting to hear concerns and answer questions from local traders and residents.  Fratton Lib Dems Councillor David Fuller and Dave Ashmore happily attended as requested, but the UKIP councillor failed to show up as promised.  The meeting was further served by the attendence of the Lib Dem 'culture and events' spokesperson Cllr Lee Hunt.  Lib Dem Parlaimentray candidate Gerald vernon-Jackson attened the launch at the first meeting.

Topics covered empty shops in and around ASDA at Bridge Shopping Centre.  The councillors asked Fratton's beat police team how they will tackle crime and anti-social behaviour better; the police stated they are keen to increase patrols and ask people to call 101 to report any incidents to build a better picture of occurences.  CCTV came up and local Lib Dems David Fuller and Dave Ashmore are campaigning for the same standard of coverage for Fratton Road enjoyed by Southsea, North End and Cosham and have asked the Council to talk to ASDA to get the empty shops back in use.

There is growing support for a 'Like Fratton Road Day' to be held on one Sunday in the street to promote Fratton shopping area in partnership with the Council and 'Fratton Big Lottery'.  Dave Ashmore says: "It's great to see the local community coming together like this."
