Tracy is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Eastney & Craneswater Ward in the 2018 local elections.
Tracy grew up on the Kent coast and attended an all girls grammar school before heading to university to take a law degree. While working in marketing for Rank Xerox in London, she started volunteering with young people in her local community which led to a career change and an appointment as a residential social worker in an Inner London Probation Hostel. Two years later, at the age of 26, she was promoted to manage the project and oversaw its successful transfer to new, larger premises. She was seconded by the Home Office to study full time to qualify as a Probation Officer and thereafter undertook a variety of frontline roles, managing and supervising high risk offenders in prison, secure hospital and community based settings. She has acted as an Area Assessor for the Ministry of Justice, conducting inspections of Probation Services and worked closely with the Police in monitoring dangerous offenders and protecting victims of serious crime. She moved into management roles and has had experience of supervising probation teams regionally while overseeing challenging budgets before taking early retirement last year.
As a naval wife of 30 years, Tracy had 13 house moves, including overseas, before moving to Portsmouth in 2013. She is delighted to have been able to put down roots with the purchase of a family home in Southsea following her husband’s retirement. They have 2 children who both went to school in Portsmouth and Tracy has led their primary school’s fundraising committee and also set up and ran the mums’ netball team. When not campaigning, Tracy can be found on a tennis court at Canoe Lake or Southsea Tennis Club or walking her dogs, Gertie and Nellie. She is a trustee of the Eastney Community Centre and is an active supporter of the City of Portsmouth Charitable Friends raising money for local charities. She is keen to see improvements in access to mental health services for adults and children in Portsmouth and supports steps to improve air quality across the City.
