Elected May 2015.
Suzy was born in Portsmouth and comes from a Portsmouth family going back many, many generations. Her grandmother (99 years old at the time of writing) lived in Suzy’s ward in Harold Road and used to work in Charlotte Street market. Throughout her teens and University years Suzy had many part-time jobs, including being a lifeguard at The Pyramids Centre and parading the streets as an 8 ft turquoise octopus working at the Sea Life Centre (now Blue Reef Aquarium)!
After four years at Lancaster University, Suzy started a career in teaching in a Primary school in East London; an area where she stayed for 14 years, becoming a Deputy Head Teacher as well as working with the University of East London doing teacher training. In 2003 she decided to return to her home town after securing a Lecturing post at Portsmouth University where she still works, teaching on undergraduate degrees in the School of Education and Childhood Studies.
Suzy has always enjoyed volunteering and has been involved in Southsea Greenhouse, re-launching No6 Cinema in the Dockyard and has been a school governor at Craneswater Junior School for 14 years.
There’s not a lot of free time for Suzy nowadays but when there is, her favourite things to do are cheering on Pompey from the North Lower Stand (season ticket holder for many decades), baking cakes and sitting with a cuppa catching up with friends (preferably eating cake).
