Sarah is the Liberal Democrat candidate in Charles Dickens Ward for the 2018 local elections.
Born in North Yorkshire and raised in Norfolk, Sarah made her way to Portsmouth after graduating from Sheffield University train as a teacher. She quickly made it home and has loved living in the waterfront city ever since.
Sarah taught in the city for 5 years as a classroom teacher and senior leader, before moving into Initial Teacher Education in 2015. Her particular areas of experience are special educational needs and challenging behaviour, and she now trains new primary school teachers across the South Coast from Waterlooville to Weymouth.
Her passion for working with children and young people led her (with the support of her church) to start a kids holiday club in Buckland in 2013, before going on to develop a tots and toys group, afternoon tea club for the elderly and a large local fun day held every summer on Buckingham Green, which she ran until 2015. She also worked closely with other community outreach projects such as the homeless soup van and the foodbank.
In 2016 she began sitting on the foster panel of a local foster agency which specialises in therapeutic fostering, as the education representative. She continues to develop her community links, and is in the process of applying to be a governor within a local primary academy chain with schools in Charles Dickens Ward.
In her free time, Sarah loves running, swimming, and eating lots of cake at the many amazing cafes and bakeries in Portsmouth! She’s also passionate about securing a great future for our planet and uses as little plastic as possible!
