Richard is the Liberal Democrat candidate for St Jude Ward in the 2019 local elections.
Being born in Southsea and raised in Milton, my dad was a shipwright at H.M Dockyard and mum was a St. James's Hospital occupational therapist. As youngsters my brother and I were fascinated by my uncle's stories about his 'adventures' as a London policeman, so it was no surprise we joined Hampshire as police cadets and then Constables. My first posting was to Albert Road's Southsea Police Station on the corner with Victoria Road South - now a pub. After that I served all over Hampshire and retired here in Southsea just over 3 years ago. With my family I've moved around the city a bit living in North End, Old Portsmouth, Eastney and Southsea - so I know Portsmouth very well. After 37 years of public service in the police I am enjoying my life getting involved in our local communities, especially where my experience and training help; things like Speedwatch and sorting out residents problems. As the Liberal Democrat candidate for Hampshire Police & Crime Commissioner I campaigned fiercely against these terrible police funding cuts. I love living here, enjoying the Kings Theatre, Southsea shopping with its creative culture, cafes, restaurants, music and the seafront walking 'Bullseye' our English Bull Terrier.
