Fight to Keep Milton Green Continues

Last week, the Portsmouth City Council Planning Committee failed to save four trees in the grounds of St. James' Hospital. This is a real disappointment to the Keep Milton Green campaign. It was a decision made despite local Lib Dem councillor Ben Dowling speaking up for the trees on behalf of local residents - over 60 of which wrote into the committee personally to object to the felling of these trees.

UPDATE: Fire Service Petition to be heard at Full Council meeting

The Portsmouth Lib Dems have been busy gathering signatures from local residents to oppose the proposed cuts to Portsmouth's Fire Service which include reducing the number of full sized fire engines as well as halving the number of fire fighters.

This petition is still ongoing in order to put as much pressure on the Fire Authority as possible to get them to reconsider but the petition has also been submitted to Portsmouth City Council for their backing. This will be debated at the Full Council meeting on Tuesday 9th February at 2pm. For full details of the meeting, go to the council website.

Lib Dems Raise Awareness of Brain Tumour Research

Local Lib Dems have been out and about raising awareness of Brain Tumour Research. Whilst at the Spice Island Inn Christmas Fair, campaigners Cllr Ben Dowling, Cllr Suzy Horton and Tom Wood learnt more about this crucial research from Tim, the charity’s regional coordinator (pictured above).

Portsmouth is home to a leading research lab for Brain Tumour Research. The wall below is in the entrance to the labs. Each square is a day which is sponsored by each individual or group that raises £2700. The team that work their dedicate their work each day to the person/s who have put in the time to do something for the cause.
