An extra 1,250 sofas, mattresses and fridges may soon be dumped on city streets.
The decision by Conservative, Labour and UKIP councillors to abolish free collections of bulky items could mean that these will get dumped on city streets making them look a real mess
"Only people on the very lowest incomes currently get free collections. Now this will be abolished, and many families just cannot afford to pay to get rid of these things," says local Lib Dem candidate Suzy Horton. "I have a real fear that these things will just be dumped on the streets. Lots of jobs in Portsmouth are dependant on tourism and I'm really worried that if the city streets look a mess then people won't want to come to visit"
