Lynne Stagg is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Baffins Ward in the 2019 local elections.
I am a retired teacher born and brought up in Swansea, I studied Geography at Aberystwyth University. I taught in London and Plymouth, lived in Australia for 6 years and I have lived in Portsmouth for the past 40 years. I have three children, four grandchildren and two rescued collie cross dogs.
I am a trustee and volunteer at the Baffins Pond Association and at the Stacey Centre where I help run events ranging from Baffins Community Fun Day to holiday craft sessions for children at the Stacey Centre and litter picks on Baffins Field. I am also on the committee of LoveBaffins and help at its Christmas Market in Tangier Road plus I am a volunteer on Mondays at the Mary Rose Museum.
I was the Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transportation between 2008 and 2010 and I am again currently. I have also been the Cabinet Member for Community Safety and have been on the Hampshire Police and Crime Panel since 2013. I sit on the Planning Committee and the Schools Forum and I have been a governor at Copnor Primary School for 7 years where I lead on Pupil Premium.
As a councillor I am passionate about improving the city and its environment for all our residents. When I was Lord Mayor, I planted over 400 trees on Baffins Field with the help of over 200 local children and their families and I'm pleased that we are planting thousands of trees to improve air quality and make the city an even more attractive place to live in. As the Cabinet Member for T&T I want to improve our bus services so that more residents travel by bus and fewer travel by car so we can cut down on congestion and significantly improve air quality. But there is still much more to do.
