Lee is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Central Southsea Ward in the 2018 local elections.
I'm proud to be a long-serving Councillor here in Central Southsea for 18 years and live in the heart of the ward. Public service is not always easy, but it's very rewarding helping people. My 12 years on the streets of Portsmouth as a patrol policeman help enable me to do the community focused work I do today. After joining as a Hampshire police cadet my first job as a fully-fledged policeman here was at Fratton police station. I've worked and lived here since I was 23 years of age - nearly 36 years now. After the police I ran my own Art Deco shop and ceramics repairs business in Southea's Marmion Road living above the shop. Joining Southsea Independent Retailers Association and West Southsea Neighbourhood Forum an outbreak of crime saw my first successful campaign for more Southsea CCTV cameras after detaining two burglars climbing out of next doors shop window. There's lots of public service in my family with a brother and sister as postal workers, my dad a shop steward and mum a shop worker. We didn't have an easy early family life but mum and dad taught us about hard work and commitment - that's what I bring to my work today - determination and care for others and to support the creativity that makes Southsea such a great place.
