Biography

Throughout my life I have always backed the underdog and looked out for others. For me helping and supporting people is a way of life. My parents always encouraged me to always consider those less well off than me. Dad was a shop steward and mum a shop worker; my brother and one sister are posties, another sister manages a hotel. I came to Portsmouth in my 20's and have lived here ever since - nearly 40 years now and love it. Having worked out of Kingston Crescent police station Stamshaw, Tipner, North End and Buckland (forming Nelson Ward) was my part of my 'beat' for over 10 years and I lived in North End for several years so I know our area very well.

Having served on Portsmouth Council before I have a lot of experience to offer. As a Nelson Ward local campaigner I've been helping hard-working Lib Dem Councillors Leo Madden and Jason Fazackarley standing up for local residents - for example helping bring back the Tipner Bus, supporting Stamshaw & Tipner Community Centre holding residents' advice surgeries at Buckland Community Centre and backing North End shops. The recent stabbing of a police officer in Stamshaw Park was dreadful. If police aren't safe then who is? Lib Dems are calling for more neighbourhood police on the beat and have doubled the number of city wardens and increased CCTV but drug-related crime is rocketing citywide; meanwhile police stations are closing, police officers and support staff are cut. At the same time funding for public services and crime prevention have been slashed by Conservatives politicians. It doesn't make sense. People tell me they feel on their own so I hope to be elected to be a STRONG voice on the Council speaking up for them.
