Helena is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Cosham Ward in the 2018 local elections.
Helena was born in Hull but moved, with her family, to Portsmouth at the age of 5. She attended St Jude School in Old Portsmouth but at the age of 10 her family moved again, this time to Maidstone. Helena loved Portsmouth so much she came back to go to university and graduated with a degree in History in 1994 and then an MA in Women’s Studies in 1996. She met her husband whilst studying at the university and they both made Portsmouth their permanent home.
Helena has been an active Liberal Democrat since she was young and has stood for Parliament in Havant in 2000 and was a Havant Borough Councillor for 2 years, when she worked in the town.
She was elected to Southsea Town Council when it was created and actively campaigned for its abolition once it became clear that it had no real reason to exist. She believes councils, and councillors, are there to serve people.
Helena is a qualified accountant and has worked for a number of locally based large companies mainly in the defence sector. She is currently Head of Finance Shared Services and heads up a team of 35 people in Lakeside. She enjoys being able to support people in their careers and the challenge offered by setting up the current shared services from a very tiny base.
