The Green Party announced today that their candidate would stand aside in Portsmouth South as part of Unite To Remain.
Today came the news that as part of Unite To Remain, where the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and The Green Party have agreed to only stand one Remain candidate to most effectively fight Brexit in 60 constituencies. This means Liberal Democrat candidate, Gerald Vernon-Jackson is the clear Remain choice in Portsmouth South with the Green Party not standing as part of this agreement.
Similar arrangements in the Brecon & Radnorshire by-election helped elect Lib Dem Jane Dodd to parliament earlier this year, defeating the Brexit supporting Conservative candidate.
As part of the same agreement the Liberal Democrat candidate on the Isle Of Wight is to stand aside, making way for the Green Party candidate.
Unite to Remain was quoted in the Guardian as saying it had approached Labour about being part of the remain alliance, but had been rebuffed.
