Elected 7th May 2015. Dave Ashmore is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Fratton Ward in the 2019 local elections.
The reasons I am standing are the same reasons as four years ago, when I was privileged enough to be elected as a Councillor for this area. I want to be a local voice, a local campaigner and to help the community that I have grown up and lived in. I live in Fratton with my two children and want the best for this area. As your representative I've spoken with many of you and taken on your causes. I have helped find people new homes, I have assisted people who needed help to gain access to services, I have liaised with the Fratton police team to combat anti social behaviour, I have had numerous amounts of dangerous and unhygienic flytipping cleared away, I have spoken out at various planning meetings against proposed HMOs that nearby residents think would be inappropriately placed, I've had potholes repaired and many more things.
Since becoming Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety here last May, I have been able to pursue other things that I know are important to people in Fratton as well as the wider city. To deal with antisocial behavior, I have successfully lobbied our Police and Crime Commissioner for extra police officers on the streets, doubled the number of Community Wardens, and have set up a community anti-crime fund, meaning £30,000 a year to go towards initiatives that will help communities be safer.
From last May I have worked on getting a refreshment kiosk combined with new toilets for the Kingston Rec, which will help compliment the fantastic new play area that Fratton Big Local provided there.
People asked about how the council could increase recycling and help keep the streets cleaner. So I managed to secure a carton recycling bank at Asda in Fratton, as well as one at Morrisons in Anchorage Park. I also signed off on the black wheeled bins that people tell me has kept foxes, seagulls and bad weather from ripping open bin bags and leaving rubbish strewn across the pavements.
Road safety in Fratton is also something I'm asked about a lot, and I'm in the middle of seeing what roads we can get speed calming measures down to protect our children and stop some of our roads being used to speed down.
I am backing the Liberal Democrat Council's calls for better funding from the government for cycling and for an electric vehicle taxi fleet in order to help with air quality problems (which are especially bad along the Fratton/Kingston/London Roads)
I am always kept busy with this job, and I love that. I always ask for people to make me work for their vote. If you were to support me to be your representative again on May 2nd, it would be an honour.
