Joining with scores of local residents local Lib Dem Councillors and campaigners helped the national 'Surfers Against Sewage' weekend on action to help keep UK beaches clean.

Luckily the sun was out on a gorgeous warm autumn afternoon. The Southsea Beach local event was organised by local woman Lianne Hickman, who promoted it through social media. Nearly 100 residents showed up to help.

St. Jude Ward Lib Dem campaigner Richard Adair says, "I saw it on Facebook and thought what a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, so I shared it and was pleased so many Lib Dem colleagues responded too". Ross Campbell (Copnor Ward Lib Dem campaigner) and Stuart Brown (Fratton Ward Lib Dem campaigner) both agreed saying, "it's important to look after our coastline all around Portsmouth, so we're glad to be lending a hand".

They were joined by Southsea and Milton Councillors Ben Dowling, Suzy Horton, Will Purvis and Lee Hunt, sweeping the beach for a couple of hours finding lots of plastic tops and sticks. All reported the beach was relatively clean, but pleased to be removing quite a lot of small plastic articles.
